I was fresh out of college and he was just finishing his second year. We ended up at the same dance recital cheering on the only two children in our lives at the time! He had caught my attention so I reached out to him! What can I say, when a woman knows what she wants - no shame in going after it! From our first date at the Cheesecake Factory to now, when our ideal date is grilling out with wine, beer + the kids, he still puts the biggest smile on my face!
Fast forward through several years, we have experienced many of the struggles, ups, downs, and in betweens that many relationships face. We have grown our family from three to six over the last four years and take pride in being parents. We have our two daddy's girls and two mamma's boys and have God at the foundation of our family, relationship, and future. We have learned a lot on our journey together and the many lessons have done nothing but strengthen our bond and love for one another.
Marriage wasn't something we wanted to rush. Ricardo always said that it would happen when the time was right and my belief was that we needed to know that we were both ready for this step that we are now taking. Our journey isn't traditional, it's far from the norm, but it is ours. We are looking forward to our day to say that yes, we do and celebrate with all of you!
During the summer, we went to a nice spot for a couples’ vacation with some friends. Tasha and Demarcus Covington had gone there for their honeymoon. It wasn’t very expensive and they thought we would all have a good time. So on July 2, 2016, off to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico we went. Mexico was absolutely beautiful! There were so many fun things to do and we were able to do most of them; parasailing, zip lining, ATV riding, underwater cave adventures, shopping, and strolling the strip. One day , the group decided to go to the beach. I put on my bathing suit and threw my hair in a bun – all set to go. Tasha almost had a heart attack and shouted, “Jasmyne, you know that leaving the condo with no makeup is a NO-NO!”(Yea, she was in on the plan, lol). Sooo, after Tasha “beat” my face, which she often did, the group decided to take couple’s pictures before heading to the beach. When it was our turn to take a picture, now that I think back, everyone gathered their phones, iPads, and devices (guess they were all in on the plan lol). As Julius and I stood there to take our couple’s picture on the balcony, my sweet fiancé dropped to one knee, told me how much he loved me and other mushy stuff, then asked me to marry him! I’m pretty sure that I said “YES!” before he finished the question! It was absolutely perfect.
WOW! No one saw this day coming, I didn't see it, and Jasmyne definitely didn't see it. I can't thank the ones who knew enough for keeping it a secret before it happened. So, this Summer (2016), Jas & I, along with some other couples thought we'd take a couples trip for a little getaway. In this process of planning this, I had a little plan of my own going. We had so many things planned, so deciding what day to pop the question was hard. So, Tuesday, July 5th, 2016; it was time to put my plan into action. Before we got our adventurous day started, we thought we'd go have our own little photoshoot! So we're getting dressed and I knew it was almost time, I was just as a new born deer walking lol. Before the girls got together to put on their new faces, I told Tasha to make sure Jas's hand was greased up, so that the ring would go on perfect (it was the generic store size, didn't have time to get it sized) but, she did as planned. As it got closer to time, my hands were sweating like crazy, just a little nervous, but I kept my cool. We get upstairs, the other couples went before us, so our time come, we took a few pictures and acted like we were done. HERE COMES THE BIG MOMENT! Jasmyne thought we were done, until i grabbed her hand, everyone pulled their phones out , she knew something was up. Once i grabbed her hand, and she asked what I was doing, she was looking lost (like always) , I pulled out my phone attempting to play music before I read my proposal, that didn't work, but I continued, and once I finished right before I dropped to one knee, Jasmyne yells, "BRUH" in awe. That was definitely not the response I was looking for, but nonetheless she said "YES" to becoming the future Mrs. McNair!! What a memorable day!
